Super League Day 10 Round Up: Moyale, Lions lose as Tigers, Eagles win

Blue Eagles moved to the top of the TNM Super League with 13 points from five games after overcoming Karonga United 1-0 at Nankhaka ground in Lilongwe on Saturday.

Gaddie Chirwa’s first half lone strike was enough to push the Eagles at the summit of the table for at least 24 hours before champions Nyasa Big Bullets take on MAFCO at the Kamuzu Stadium where a win could see Bullets return on position one on goal difference.

Kaonga United came into the match badly needing a result but it was not to be as they continue to chase for their first win of the season after 5 games.

At Civo Stadium rejected Deus Mkutu came back to haunt his former employers Moyale Barracks as his 31st minute strike gave Kamuzu Barracks the lead in a 2-1 win over struggling Moyale Barracks.

Kamuzu Barracks started the game on a high note with Mkutu coming close to scoring twice inside the first 20 minutes.

The deadlock would finally be broken in the 31 minute with Mkutu combining well with his striking partner Zeliat Nkhoma for the former Moyale forward to slot home from the left of the penalty box.

Unfortunately that was the last time Mkutu would make an impact on the game as few minutes later he was taken off for Kelvin Hanganda after a head on collision with Moyale defender Maneno Nyoni.

KB increased their lead just 4 minutes into the second half, striker Zeliat Nkhoma rising highest to head home a corner.

Both teams made several changes in the second half and Moyale threatened a come back when Charles Nkhoma pulled a goal back in the 54th minute but the Mzuzu based soldiers failed to find the equaliser to register their third defeat of the second. The Pritchard Mwansa side are now on position 13 with just three points from 4 games.

Elsewhere, Red Lions suffered a 2-1 loss at Mpira Stadium in the hands of Wakawaka Tigers after losing 2-0 at the same venue to Sable FC last week.

Tigers scored in the 11th and 27th minute through Frank Chikufenji and Precious Chiudza respectively while Royal Bokosi scored for the Lions in the 78th minute. Tigers are now on position five with nine points from six games while Red Lions have dropped to position eight with 7 points from five games.

Action continues on Sunday when Nyasa Big Bullets take on MAFCO at the Kamuzu Stadium while Silver Strikers host Dedza Dynamos in Area 47 in Lilongwe and Ekwendeni Hammers welcome Rumphi United at Mzuzu Stadium.
