TNM Super League Week 5 Preview: Eagles face Karonga United, Bullets, Wanderers in home fixtures

Blue Eagles will be aiming to return to the top of the TNM Super League at least for 24 hours when they face winless Karonga United at the Nankhaka Stadium on Saturday before league leaders Nyasa Big Bullets host struggling MAFCO FC at the Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.

The Eagles and Bullets are tied on 10 points apiece but Bullets occupy first place owing to a superior goal difference having scored 2 goals more than the Eliah Kananji side.

The Area 30 side dropped points for the first time this season in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Bullets and conceded in the league this for the first time this season having gone for three games without conceding.

The draw gave Eagles Coach Eliah Kananji some food for thought as to what his charges should expect if they are to challenge for the championship this season having given away a 1-0 lead just after 4 minutes after taking a lead.

And this Saturday, the policemen face a Karonga United side smarting from a 2-0 home defeat to Silver Strikers.

Karonga are having a season to forget for themselves as they are yet to register a win from their opening four games drawing twice and losing twice at home against Kamuzu Barracks and Silver Strikers.

This is in sharp contrast to the performance the Ingwina displayed last season under Dan Dzinkambani as they finished on position five having turned Karonga Stadium a fortress where getting a win for an away team was a far-fetched dream.

And Saturday’s clash against an in-form Eagles side presents an opportunity for Ingwina to taste their character as they are already relegation candidates at this early stage of the season.

At Civo Stadium, an unpredictable Kamuzu Barracks face the under-performing Moyale Barracks FC in an all soldiers affair on Saturday.

The two teams come into the match from contrasting fortunes with Kamuzu Barracks coming from that convincing 2-0 win over TN Stars while Moyale were humbled by the visiting Mighty Wanderers 1-0 last time out.

The attention will however be on Kamuzu Barracks Coach Charles Kamanga who faces his former side Moyale FC.

And straight from that 1-0 away win last Saturday, Mighty Wanderers will be welcoming Sable Farming at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.

The Nomads are yet to pick form this season but that away win over Moyale Barracks is a result that has instilled confidence in the Eddingtone Ng’onamo troops as getting a result at Mzuzu stadium has been any away team’s dream in the Super league.

As for Sable, it’s not looking  bad at all for the debutants having lost once, drawn twice and won once, they seat on position 11 just 2 places below their Saturday opponents.

Elsewhere at Mpira Stadium, ninth placed Wakawaka Tigers, straight from that not so fruitful weekend in which they only managed a single point out of a possible 6 up north face seventh placed Red Lions in a mid-table clash.

Action continues on Sunday as depending on Saturday results, defending Champions Nyasa Big Bullets would have relinquished first place by the time they take to the pitch play against the struggling MAFCO FC.
